Barcelona El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport (BCN) is located 12 km (7.5 mi) southwest of the Barcelona 6 metres above sea level, between the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans and Sant Boi.
The airport has recently been renamed and receives its current name in homage to a Catalan politician, although it is still known technically as Barcelona-El Prat Airport. It also receives other popular nicknames such as BCN airport or El Prat airport.
Barcelona airport is the second largest international airport in Spain, after Madrid-Barajas International Airport, and it is the first in Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast. Once the COVID pandemic is over, the airport exceeded 41.6 million passengers in 2022. Before that, in 2019, more than 52 million passengers passed the facilities of the Catalan airport. Barcelona is the sixth busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger traffic.
