AIEL Transitions to Continuous / Rolling Publication as of January 1, 2027

Important Announcement: AI Enhanced Learning (AIEL) Transitions to Continuous / Rolling Publication as of January 1, 2027

Given the rapid pace of developments in artificial intelligence and education, the need for timely, high-quality knowledge dissemination is more critical than ever. To provide researchers, educators, and decision-makers with immediate access to pioneering insights, AI Enhanced Learning (AIEL) will transition from its traditional quarterly publishing model (four issues per year) to a continuous / rolling publication system, effective January 1, 2027.

What Does This Change Mean for Our Stakeholders?

1. For Authors: Rapid Publication and Immediate Visibility

  • Zero waiting time for issue assembly: As soon as your manuscript successfully completes peer review, formatting, and final proofing, it will be officially published immediately. You will no longer need to wait for a scheduled quarterly issue.
  • Faster citation and early impact: Published articles will instantly receive full citation metadata, final pagination/article numbers, and immediate indexing on LearnTechLib.org, Scopus, and other major databases.
  • 100% open access with no APCs: AIEL remains a fully open-access journal published by AACE with no article processing charges (APCs) for authors.

2. For Readers and the Global Academic Community: Real-Time Research

  • Immediate access to cutting-edge studies: Rather than waiting for four discrete release dates throughout the year, readers will benefit from a continuous stream of the latest theoretical and empirical research on AI in learning across all domains (PreK–12, higher education, corporate, healthcare, and government).
  • Instant publication alerts: Readers can subscribe to publication alerts to receive notifications as soon as new articles go live, ensuring they stay at the forefront of the field.

3. For Reviewers and Editorial Board Members: Balanced Workflow

  • The rigorous double-blind peer-review process and high standards of publication ethics (adhering to COPE guidelines) remain strictly intact.
  • Submissions and reviews will be managed in a steady flow throughout the year, eliminating the deadline spikes associated with traditional issue schedules.

Transition Timeline and Practical Details

  • Submissions in 2026: All ongoing and newly submitted manuscripts during 2026 will continue through their standard review process and will seamlessly transition into the accelerated pipeline.
  • Official rollout: On January 1, 2027, fixed issue numbers (Issues 1–4) will be replaced by a continuous publication model aggregated within the annual volume on LearnTechLib.org.
  • Special issues: Guest-edited special issues will continue, using the rolling publication format so that accepted contributions within a special theme can be published without delay.
